Frequently Asked Questions

Is the trial class really free?

Yes, the trial class is 100% free! Come try a class with us — no cost and no commitment. You can book yours right on our Free Trial page.

Do I need experience to start?

No experience is needed at all! We work with all levels, from complete beginners to advanced students, so if you've never done Jiu Jitsu or any other martial art before, that's no problem at all. Come try a class and we'll take good care of you.

What should I bring to my first class?

Just bring a bottle of water and lots of energy! Wear comfortable workout clothes — leggings or workout pants and a top, t-shirt or rash guard. We'll provide the gi for your trial class, and you can wear the t-shirt or rash guard underneath it.

Do I need a gi (uniform)?

For your trial class, we provide the gi for you, so you don't need to bring one. Once you enroll, you'll need your own gi: you can buy one from us, and depending on the plan you choose, the gi is already included in your enrollment.

Are the classes gi or no-gi?

Our classes are gi classes — we don't have a specific no-gi day on the schedule at the moment, but students are welcome to train no-gi after the gi classes.

How long are the classes?

It depends on the class: Adult classes: 1 hour. White Belts Only and Women's Only classes: 45 minutes. Kids ages 3–5: 30 minutes. Kids ages 5 and up: 45 minutes.

Where are you located?

We're located at 30-89 38th Street, Astoria, NY 11103. If you can, please arrive about 10 minutes early for your class.

Can parents watch the class?

Of course! Parents are more than welcome to watch their child's trial class and to stay and watch the classes, especially in the beginning. You're also welcome to bring other people to watch the class.

Can I bring a friend or family member to try a class with me?

Sure, bring them along! If they'd like to try the class too, just let us know and we'll get them set up.

How much does it cost after the trial?

We have a few different membership options: a monthly plan, 3-month and 6-month plans, and class packages as well. The best way to go over everything is on the day of your trial class — after class, we can show you all the options in person and find the one that fits you best.
